Review Policy for The RUSTIC WINDOW

Cicely Ford, writer, Editor, owner and sole proprietor of therusticwindow.com, am currently open to receiving solicited Advance Reading Copies (ARCs) and Review Copies of books. My preferred genres are Speculative Fiction (Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, High Fantasy Science Fiction), Young Adult & New Adult (Speculative Fiction/Contemporary), with the occasional Romance novel (Historical, Contemporary), Thrillers, Mystery. These are my preferred genres. However, I accept books from nearly all genres with the exception of Horror/Paranormal. I love graphic novels, literature, non fiction mysteries, historical fiction, Christian and will consider most books with an intriguing synopsis.

I do not do reviews of unsolicited works. I will consider ALL queries and review copies sent my way and if I agree to do a review I will post the review here in a timely manner with links to the review across social media spaces {Instagram, Twitter & Twitter}  Note: As of right now I am not accepting self-published inquiries.

My review copy preference is print copies which will be given top priority over other forms of copy as they can be photographed. However, digital ARCs/review copies are accepted.

In order to contact me with a review query, please contact me by email at cicely@therusticwindow.com

Please note: I reserve the right to refuse to review a book, but also realize if I do agree to review your book, I will review it per my usual reviewing style so before deciding that you would like me to review a copy please adhere to my reviewing style here, on Instagram & Twitter. I’m more than likely to reject any titles containing zombies, ghosts and witches. {I am a Harry Potter fan so if  your book is written in this format, I will accept LOL.}

Rating System:

I am an AVID reader I can finish a book in 1 to 14 days depending on its length/density. Note: plot holes, sloppy world building overused tropes will be reviewed critically. I pay very close attention to every detail and lack thereof: development of character/s, world building {if present}, grammatical errors, overall story idea, use of expressions, cliche' phrases etc.

5/5 I LOVED this book. I would buy this book, re-read this book, it was flawless, it gave me all the feels and the whole world needs to read it.

4/5I liked this book a lot. It had a few hiccups, but I really enjoyed it.

3/5It was descent. I wasn't really moved by it. I feel other readers will really like it or hate it.

2/5Meh. This book was just not a hit for me.

1/5I absolutely 100% disliked this book. I spent time, maybe days reading it and I would like a refund on my time.

DISCLAIMER: I would never write any of the above in a review lol. It takes a lot of hard work and time to write a book. I would never disrespect the author even if I was  not a fan of the book. I will assign my rating on a scale of five, but the statements following are meant to be my humorous way of explaining my rating system!!

Cover Reveals

I am a sucker for beautiful covers!! If you are interested in me doing a social media blast or blog post revealing your cover, please send a detailed email with the following:

  • title/author/book release date
  • links to synopsis
  • Cover reveal date
  • Date to be published
  • Note events around book promotion/release
  • Also be sure to note if this book is part of a duology or series

Giveaways

We all love books of course, but who doesn't love bookish merch? I am not limited to doing only book giveaways, but also merchandise related to books and that suit the lifestyle of a reader. {Candles, bookmarks, prints, jewelry, mugs, pillows, subscription boxes, promotional material, etc.}

If you would like to do a giveaway include the following in a detailed email to me:

  • book title/author/genre
  • book format (hardcover, paperback, ebook, ARC etc.)
  • shipping requirements {will giveaway be open just US or International or both}
  • brief book synopsis
  • promotional links
  • include any other information or promotional material {signed copy etc.}
  • giveaway deadline

I am finding that giveaways are best done through a social media outlet particularly Instagram. The book community on Instagram is quite large, but Twitter blasts and Tumblr posts will be included as well. {Note: I do not have a Facebook page.}
